Enacting Data Feminism in Advocacy Data Work

In this paper, we present the results of a study that examines role data in nonprofit advocacy work. We conducted semi-structured interviews with 25 individuals who play critical roles work 18 different organizations. Our analysis reveals five key stakeholders work-beneficiaries, policymakers, funding and partner organizations, gatekeepers, local publics. It also contributes framework four functions organizations-data as amplifier, activator, legitimizer, incubator. characterize challenges exist, particularly widespread attempts to reappropriate across functions. These reappropriation are often rooted participants' effects enact feminist principles from margins economy. Finally, discuss how institutions operate outside dominant goals known three Ss (surveillance, selling, science) propose fourth S, social good, is working challenge norms economy should be considered research regarding moving forward.
